Bodrum
Bodrum (ancient Halikarnas) is the birthplace of Herodotus and a uniquely diverse holiday resort.
A cosmopolitan town, centered on a magnificent port, Bodrum is a beautiful place to visit and explore.
A favourite holiday haunt of Turkey's rich and famous, the town is a historic settlement with plenty of ancient attractions.
Indeed, it is said that two meters under the streets of Bodrum lies 5000 years of history.
In the city centre, you'll find the Tomb of King Mausolus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, along with Bodrum Castle- a fine example of architecture from the period of the Crusades- which dominates the peninsula of the Town and hosts the Underwater Archaeological Museum . To the west of the town is the ancient Amphitheatre which dates back to around 330-30 BC. Also worth a visit is the Myndos gate which was one of the two ancient entrances to the town. Work is currently under way to restore the city walls, as a further enhancement of the Town's historic past.
Yalikavak
The small town of Yalikavak is becoming ever more popular as an alternative resort to Bodrum. Yalikavak still supports a thriving fishing industry and the restaurants around the picturesque harbour display a wide selection of fresh fish every day.
There are many shops in the traffic free centre, and every week the town hosts one of the biggest fruit, vegetable and clothing markets on the Bodrum Peninsula.
The small harbour is surrounded by restaurants and bars, and while there is the occasional disco bar the general atmosphere is quiet, unhurried and relaxed. We have a choice of beach-side apartments or hillside villas and apartments.
Gumusluk
Gumusluk (Goo-moosh-look), is on the opposite side of the Bodrum Peninsula, about 20 minutes by car or local minibus from Bodrum. The village is still a lively fishing port, with more than a dozen fish restaurants along the sea front, displaying a wide variety of locally caught seafood.
Once the ancient city of Myndos, the village is now in a conservation area, so no cars are allowed in the centre. The westerly aspect of Gumusluk provides some spectacular sunsets, aperitif in hand listening to the evocative pop-pop sound of the single piston fishing boats chugging their way into the harbour is a pleasure not to be missed.
